This multi-award winning resort was designed by Australian architect Kerry Hill of Kerry Hill Architects in collaboration with interior architect Didier Lefort of Didier Lefort Architects. Akitek Juruancang Malaysia & AJM Interiors were the Malaysian consultants. It received the Aga Khan Award in 2001 and is still regarded as one of the most beautiful resorts in the world today.
The main building is set 40 metres above sea level and is 300 metres from the Andaman Sea. This is to preserve the coastline and bring in tranquil energy from the ancient rainforest into the resort. Many building materials were sourced locally and a limited number of villas are dotted throughout the resort’s lush tropical compound.
